Register now to learn about the work that goes into the political process and how public relations is integral in the introduction and adoption of bills. Andrea Gainey, Lead Legislative Aide for Florida District 2 Senator George Gainer, will explain how legislative affairs works and the importance of PR in the political arena. Additionally, she’ll provide an update on Hurricane Michael relief efforts and discuss the latest exciting news from the Florida Senate.
Our speaker, Andrea Gainey, Lead Legislative Aide, is from the Florida Senate and will be discussing current legislative affairs.
Andrea Gainey is a skilled public relations strategist and writer, with nearly 15 years’ experience in fostering positive relationships between organizations and media. Andrea has extensive professional management experience in the public and private sectors. She has been engaged in community, government and media relations; corporate communications; events and communications planning; issues and crisis management; philanthropy and cause-related marketing; niche and online promotion; social media and website content management.
In 2005, Andrea launched her own public relations and graphic design company during which she worked for elected officials and served as the media relations director for several successful local and state races. Following the birth of her second son in 2006, Andrea accepted a position as Public Information Officer for Washington County Sheriff’s Office where she served for 11 years.
Andrea was a featured speaker at the Florida Sheriff’s Association Conference, participated in numerous additional speaking engagements while moderating and serving on panels with topics including effectively delivering promotional campaigns, media addresses, reports to executive management, good publicity, reputation management, and timely response to PR inquiries in the development and success of an organization.
After over a decade of work in law enforcement, Andrea decided to expand her reach in public service to extend to legislative policy as a Senior Legislative Aide and Media Relations Manager for Senator George Gainer, a position she currently holds now.
While this position demands the demonstration of skills Andrea has spent her entire career perfecting, it also includes managing the Member’s long-term legislative plan, designing strategies and tactics on legislative issues, researching and developing policy, and assisting the Member in effectively serving over 470,000 constituents. Recently Andrea was awarded a congressional recognition for her work.
Active with a number of nonprofit organizations over the years, Andrea has directed communications and public relations for many events including the award-winning Panhandle Watermelon Festival.
Andrea served for several years on the Advisory Board for Florida Panhandle Technical College. She is a certified instructor for CarFit, a safety initiative and educational program in collaboration with American Society of Aging, American Automobile Association, AARP and American Occupational Therapy Association. Andrea is also an accredited National Self-Defense Institute S.A.F.E. Instructor, an initiative to stop violence against teenaged and adult women.
